Cryptography for developers
When building web applications, we use regularly use aspects of cryptography, for instance https/SSL or encrypting URL parameters so that users can't easily change them and break your app. Hardly anyone knows about the actually quite important details of cryptography though. This talk will fill your knowledge gap without having to have obtained a PhD in Math (which certainly would help though :) More...
Speaker Details
Kai started his Adobe career some years ago when using Dreamweaver 2 to build HTML web pages during an university class. From there he lectured in Java before moving into software development using ColdFusion, Java, Flex and other technologies.
Kai is an Advanced Certified ColdFusion Developer since version 5 and an Adobe Master Instructor for the Flex, ColdFusion, Connect and LiveCycle curriculum. He holds a Master of Science degree in Maths, Computer Science and Philosophy and always tries to find a way of digging deeper into the theories of language and parser construction ;)

ColdFusion, Flex and the wonderful world of web services and SOA
Each of the common technologies one could use for building web applications today, supports web services in at least a very basic way. But when it comes to service oriented architectures and using more complex web service standards such as WS-Security, WS-Encryption or .NET's WSE 2/3, developers and architects usually have to deal with a lot of issues. This session will discuss how different web service implementations in ColdFusion and Flex could be hooked up with each other as well as with Java and .NET. You will learn about standards in the web serivces world and why interoperability sadly often is still one of the marketing buzzwords in that space. We'll also have a look at the biggest and common hurdles to be removed when building truly interoperable web services architectures with ColdFusion, Flex and other technologies. More...
Internationalisation with ColdFusion and Flex
When building and architecting web applications a common mistake is not to think about the issues related to delivering a website or a web application for a multi-national or multi-lingual target audience. Internationalisation and the associated topics localisation and globalisation comprise more than just offering support for more than one language or some freaky special characters. This session will provide an introduction in various aspects of how to build web applications using ColdFusion and Flex targeting an international audience and supporting users with different cultural backgrounds. It doesn't always have to be relational: Introduction into CouchDB
CouchDB is fundamentally different from what you're used to, but it offers a refreshing and different approach for storing data in your web application and it actually scales tremendously well in large web apps. In this session, you'll get an introduction into CouchDB, its API and the mechanisms behind the API and we're going to look into hooking CouchDB into technologies like Flex and ColdFusion. More...
Web Services - Revisited
I presented on web services and why they "have issues" when it comes to interoperability, security and trust at webDU 2007. Things have changed, Luke Skywalker is now ruling the universe and web services are just fine...ehh, hang on! More...
