Workshop: The Beginner's guide to Away3D

Take your first steps into the world of 3D in Flash, with help from the popular open source library Away3D. This intensive day long course is the perfect primer for anyone interested in expanding their Flash knowledge into the 3rd dimension. We'll start with how to build a basic 3D interface, adding interaction, animation and asset loading as we go along, all from within the Away3D framework. Tips for optimising performance will be covered, along with some fun things to do with 3D when it is used in combination with other libraries such as Augmented Reality and physics.
FULL DAY Price: $495 (inc GST)

  • Difficulty: Experienced
  • Prerequisites: The course is aimed at developers and code-oriented designers interested in creating their first 3D applications in Flash. You'll need to bring a laptop! Or a desktop if you're a masochist or some sort of packhorse.

Rob Bateman (London, UK)

Rob Bateman is the co-founder of Away3D, a popular open source framework for producing realtime 3D graphics in Flash. He has been involved in programming for the web for over 10 years, and created his first 3D engine back in 2001 using Flash 5. It was pretty terrible. Since then he has worked for a variety of agencies and institutions, the longest stint at the BBC where he moved into Flash fulltime and created many successful games and applications for the BBC Sport and News websites.
