Who Moved My Mobile Marketplace

It used to be the case that if you wanted to develop and sell mobile apps, you chose a difficult language to code in, unfamiliar tools, foreign packaging and signing workflows, and then entered into the nightmare of distribution. Then along came a certain device that had a store "attached" to it, and behold, the mobile marketplace was changed forever! For some developers, this was the pill that dissolved the development and distribution headache they had been suffering from. For others, it was nothing more than a new walled garden that locked them into a closed market, when so much of the digital world seemed to be opening up. So what's the reality?
