Measuring Performance Improvements In ColdFusion Applications With Effective N-Tier Caching

As more and more data is created, stored and consumed via Web 2.0 and future Web 3.0 paradigms, caching is and will continue to be a vital methodology for putting required data nearer to users.   In addition, effective caching will reduce the load on back-end infrastructure.  Two vitally important aspects apply to ensuring that caching methodologies are both accurate and effective.

  • Difficulty: Expert
  • Session Track: Java,ColdFusion

Session Detail

Firstly, there needs to be a very good management and reporting structure for the caching mechanisms themselves to ensure objects are being stored as expected and released when no longer required.

The second important need in ensuring that caching methodologies are both accurate and effective is accurate performance metrics based on capacity planning to ensure that we have measurable and quantifiable benefits from the caching.

This workshop will demonstrate the use of N-Tier caching in ColdFusion Applications with a practical demonstration of its use and benefits.  ColdFusion 9 introduced a range of enhanced caching opportunities via ehcache yet there are many more ways and places to cache CF Applications. This will be demonstrated via load-tests on applications, whilst changing the levels of caching and by using proven measurement methodologies applied in capacity planning.
