Appland: A Case Study in Building a Mobile Apps Team

In 2010, Vodafone Hutchison Australia embarked on a new adventure and set about creating an in-house mobile apps development team. This team was created with innovation as a core ingredient, and tasked with being an agile group of creative developers who could take the telco into unchartered waters and play in the app store ecosystems that had started to change traditional thinking and behaviour around mobile content and services.

  • Difficulty: General

Session Detail

The results so far make for interesting conversation for anyone involved in running or participating in mobile app development teams, and how this has shaped the approach for Appland's sophomore year. In this session, Appland's head honcho Dale Rankine will lead you through a case study of their first year - looking at topics such as development methodologies, targeting devices/platforms/customers, team development and recruiting, skills mix, and how to keep smiling through it all.
