Practical Flash Mobile: Tales from the Edge

DRD Interactive approached MXDU late last year about the possibility of developing some conference content for the mobile phone platform, delivered via the Flash Lite 1.1 player. Since that time they have been working on an application that delivers important information regarding schedules, speaker details, location information, and of course some light-hearted entertainment.

MXDU Mobile Companion

Developed primarily as a demonstration tool, "MXDU Mobile" is a great example of a real world application for mobile development, and one that easily shows the rich and exciting world being opened up to Flash developers through the Flash Lite player. DRD Interactive's Managing Director and lead Flash developer, Dale Rankine, will run you through the process behind the development of the application, some of the considerations taken with the mobile platform, and some future prospects for this area of Flash development.

Dale Rankine is the CEO of Moket, Australia's first Flash Lite focused company which started in late 2004. He's been working with Flash and interactive media for the past 10 years, holding many creative, development and management positions with interactive studios and companies in his hometown of Brisbane. Dale also started the successful Brisbane web-studio DRD Interactive, and continues to currently operate as Managing Director.
